Bug#695204: RFP: geierlein -- Elster client to submit VAT declarations to Germany's fiscal authorities

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name    : geierlein
  Version         : 0.4.0
  Upstream Author : Stefan Siegl <stesie@brokenpipe.de>
* URL             : http://stesie.github.com/geierlein/
* License         : AGPL-3
  Programming Lang: Mozilla XUL, Javascript, HTML5
  Description : Elster client to submit VAT declarations to Germany's fiscal authorities

Long description from the projects site:

| Geierlein is a free (AGPL'ed) Elster client, i.e. an application that
| allows to send VAT declarations to Germany's fiscal authorities.
|
| It's a complete rewrite of its predecessors libgeier & Taxbird. Opposed
| to these it's completely written in JavaScript and HTML5, hence it
| should be rather platform independent. From this it also follows that no
| compilation whatsoever is needed to get Geierlein to run.
|
| Currently it is not possible to send returns that are due annually
| (especially the income tax return) since the fiscal authority doesn't
| allow to do that off the ERiC library (which is proprietary however).
| It's not clear at the moment whether one day it will be possible to do
| so.

Note that development of Taxbird is officially discontinued. The latest
version of Taxbird (available in Debian sid at this point) works for
2012, but will not work for 2013.

geierlein will likely have to depend on iceweasel or xulrunner-something
as well as node.js. Further libraries are required:

	git://github.com/stesie/forge.git
	git://github.com/stesie/gzip-js.git
	git://github.com/Greendrake/jsxml.git

None of which seem packaged for Debian at this point.

Helmut
