Bug#694058: TAG:upgrade-intervention -- alarm sound during long upgrade processes

Package: wnpp
Severity: RFP

Sorry if this is the wrong forum or format;  I'm an Ubuntu newbie.  Upgrading Ubuntu from one release to the next can take hours, most of which time the system just gets on with its work.  Time for a cup of tea, or to get on with a bit of Latin translation in another room.  But every now and then, some package demands user intervention, sends a request, and just hangs, waiting.  Could you ring a bell, or something, to attract user attention, when this happens?  Otherwise nothing gets done, and the upgrade can take hours longer than it need, depending on how often progress is monitored.
