Well, AFAIK it is not only that it's a complex bunch of software to package 
but that it's very Redhat-centric so to be of use on a Debian environment 
there's a lot of upstream work involved too.  At the very least:
 * Install templating (something instead of Kickstart, maybe FAI and/or d-i 
support)
 * Package management/mirroring (something instead of Yum, maybe aptitude 
support and/or apt-cacher-ng)
 * In order not to crash against a wall, will these efforts integrate nicely 
with Spacewalk?

All in all, I'm quite interested on these issues (automated 
deployment/configuration/management) and I feel Debian is a bit seing the 
tail lights og the redhat-ish world, so I may find time to help a bit.
