What did you actually tried to get this package into Debian?  Did you
asked for a sponsor?  I have seen several people (including DDs)
interested but there was no such signal like "I'm read with packaging,
it works, could somebody please test and upload."

If I'm not missleaded you just need to ask for an alioth.debian.org
account.  A short Google search leaded me to

which seems to be a good starting point.

I guess that's a bit boring and makes maintenance harder - it would be
nice if somebody who really uses the package would take over maintenance.
