Bug#514769: O: inadyn -- client to alleviate the requirements for an Internet name
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
I intend to orphan the inadyn package.
The package description is:
With this package the user can have an Internet name for his host
even though he might not have a registered domain name, a static IP,
or run a name server. It works by being a client of a supposedly open
name server and updating the server's records when the need arise.
This is sometimes reffered to as ddns, which is a shorthand for dynamic
DNS. http://inadyn.ina-tech.net has a link to a better defintion of
what Dynamic DNS system is. It also carries a list of service
providers. Some of these services are free of charge.
.
This is a command line tool that is written in portable ANSI C with a
little OS abstraction layer. It is using a Multi-protocol file
transfer library, which is ported to all the main operating systems,
for the network related stuff. It can maintain multiple host names
and multiple service providers with the same IP address, and has a
web based IP detection which runs well behind a NAT router.

Note: The original upstream lost interest a long time ago.
