Bug#473128: Boson with OpenAL Soft



Hello,

There is a new library for the OpenAL API which is called OpenAL Soft. This 
new library is OpenAL 1.1 compliant, and is considered the replacement for 
the deprecated OpenAL SI (openal-0.0.8). Below are some links with the

I am packaging openal-soft packages for Debian and want to include them for 
Lenny. The only unresolved problem (that's known) with the new library is 
that it causes boson not to produce any sound. I've attached a log of errors 
I receive.

Here's what the upstream maintainer of openal-soft had to say.

> had to guess, I think perhaps it's trying to buffer Vorbis data directly.
> Unfortunately, this won't work because OpenAL Soft doesn't support the
> AL_EXT_vorbis extension. If it's indeed trying to load the Vorbis data
> directly, it will need to be modified so it can decode it manually (using
> libvorbisfile or some-such) before buffering it as PCM data.

I plan on looking into this problem. If you want to help as well, it will be 
greatly appreciated.
