Bug#456312: RFP: fair -- Daemons for implementing load balancers

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name    : fair
  Version         : 0.5.0
  Upstream Author : Wessel Dankers
* URL             : http://non-gnu.uvt.nl/fair/
* License         : GNU GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Daemons for implementing load balancers

fair is a system for implementing load balancers; it consists of two
daemons: carrousel and transponder. Carrousel, which performs load
balancing services, typically runs on a load balancer; transponder runs
on the servers.

Fair understands network topologies where one node is reachable via more
than one IP adress; this allows not only the servers, but the network to
be redundant as well. This distinguishes fair from other load balancers.

This software has been running for about 3 years now at a Dutch
University, loadbalancing the central email infrastructure. So I guess
it could be considered mature software.

Currently, a package for sarge is available from

 deb[-src] http://non-gnu.uvt.nl/debian sarge fair

.

Bye,

Joost
