For me, papi is a library with its tools to access hardware performance counters. It used a lot on some plateform (NUMA, ...) to analyze the performance of HPC programs. Google with "papi" give this link in first : http://icl.cs.utk.edu/papi/ This software is not packaged in Debian (yet ? but it needs a patched kernel). However, I think I would be better if you do not use 'papi' as the package name. Perhaps openprinting-papi or openprinting or ... What do you think ?
I'm not particularly attached to the package name, but there will likely be issues with the library name.
What's worse is that the OpenPrinting libpapi already appears in a few other distributions, and is already referenced in a published standard by the OpenPrinting group.
So, perhaps, the hardware-counter PAPI group should consider a name change instead.
