Bug#330125: status of toolchain-source?

Hi all,

Once I get toolchain-source to build a toolchain for the supported
(linux) targets I'll get back to you for help with further testing
(I can only test build on a sparc64 machine) and upload.

Any progress with this?

I've managed to build most of the -linux targets but some are still
causing me problems.

I can build and install from scratch:

 * alpha-linux
 * arm-linux
 * m68k-linux
 * mips-linux
 * hppa-linux
 * powerpc-linux
 * i386-linux

I have (I think, building as I write) solved the build
dependency problem for ia64-linux.

I have dependency problems for s390-linux and sparc-linux.
amd64-linux is currently not recognized by the tpkg-* tools
but that should not be too big a problem.

The s390-linux cross-gcc has a circular dependency on
lib64gcc1-s390-cross and libc6-dev-s390x-s390, which can
be forced by "debuild -d" on gcc, but the build process breaks
down with a long list of errors that I have not yet looked
into.

The sparc-linux cross-gcc depends on a number of X11 libraries
which IMHO shouldn't be needed. (We are, after all, building a
command line tool here!) I'll try to remove them from the
dependency lists to see if it builds ok without those libraries.

I'll have some sort of usable package at the end of the week
if everything goes as planned. My biggest problem right now
is that my Ultra5 is not the fastest machine in the world and
building a gcc takes about 2 hours. That gives me at most two
development/test cycles per day :-(

If you are in dire need of cross compilers for the
architectures that are building, let me know and I can arrange
to upload a snapshot of the toolchain-source packages to an
ftp-server somewhere.

Best regards
