I've been working with upstream to help make sure the next upstream version of freetype addresses Debian's needs for ABI continuity, so I am considering adopting the package as a result -- preferably with a team, since I'm good with libraries and not so good with fonts, and we probably want both skillsets involved in maintaining a font library. ;) Let me know if you think it's ok for me to adopt this package, and whether you prefer to keep your own name on it as maintainer until a team can be put together.
