Bug#309497: ITP: md5deep -- a cross-platform set of programs to compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, or Whirlpool message digests on an arbitrary number of files

Good point. If the programm is pretty small and can be compiled
staticaly than it has a good reason to exist. cfv is nice and so but
requires python which you may do not want in a environment with limited
disk space.
