Bug#278810: [sfrost@snowman.net: Re: Bug#305287: ITP: slony1 -- Slony-I is a "master to multiple slaves" replication system with cascading and failover.]

I didn't realize that I was supposed to alter the title of the RFP bug
and change it to ITP. I've done that now. Perhaps there's more
documentation for me to read that I've missed.

I have in fact talked to the people who've commented on that bug
already. Oliver initially expressed interest in packaging Slony-I, but
hasn't had the time to do it. At least, that's the last thing I've
heard from him on the subject (in February 2005 I believe).

Also, I had absolutely no way of knowing that the CVS version had
already been packaged. Were you intending on packaging Slony-I for
Debian? I don't want to try and duplicate someone else's work here. If
you or someone else wants to do this then let me know.

By the way, the upstream debian directory is my work. Is there a reason
why you don't think it should exist? The intention was that it would make it
easier for users to build their own packages until there's an official
Debian package available.

Thanks,

Tim

What 1.1.1 version? 1.1.0 isn't even out yet- it's in Beta.
Additionally, there's already an RFP bug on it which you could have
changed the title on, etc, and talked to the people who've commented on
that bug already. Additionally, the CVS version of it's already been
packaged actually, there's some packages at
http://kenobi.snowman.net/~sfrost/slony. I've got some better and more
recent ones than that (which I think are a fair bit better than what's
in the Slony CVS upstream debian/ directory which I personally don't
think should even exist) but Slony upstream asked that we not put a CVS
release into a released version of Debian and that means holding off on
actually uploading the package until Slony 1.1 is officially released or
filing annoying RC bugs and whatnot against a CVS upload to keep it out
of sarge.

	Thanks,

		Stephen
