Would you to package this within the scope of of the Debian GNOME Team? 
This gives you extra support with your package and the input of a wide 
varaiety of experienced gnome packagers. It would  mean working within 
the alioth svn repository. Full details can be found in the 
gnome-pkg-tools package. If you'd like to talk about it, a vibrant 
community can usually be found on #gnome-debian on GIMPNet (irc.gimp.org).
