Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice if somebody was willing to package a2x,
which is a simple program which takes ASCII input and
emits X keyboard and mouse events. This is used to control
an X workstation using a speech recognition program
such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking running on a Windows
machine. (You ssh or telnet from the Windows box to the
Linux box, run a2x, and then dictate into the telnet client).

The program is very simple and not currently under active
development upstream, so maintaining the package would
not be a very demanding task. (I do have a patch to fix
a bug in it which I'll give to anybody who's interested
in packaging this, though.)

Current "upstream site" is:
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/a2x-voice/a2x.tar.Z
linked to from the FAQ at:
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/a2x-voice/a2x-faq.html

Building is pretty easy:
change Imakefile to read "#define OldDragonDictate NO"
   rather than YES
 xmkmf
make (ignore all the compiler warnings :->)
 make install

If nobody seems interested I *might* become a new maintainer
in order to do this myself. I'd have to be pretty desperate,
though :->

This RFP has been closed as it is very old and the requested program
isn't even under active maintenance since at least two years. If the
program is really important to you, please revive it upstream first.

Cheers,
        Moritz
