I agree with you here. Metalog is small, uses little CPU's and memory
and is easy to configure. I even packaged it for some of my servers
before it appeared in Debian. (IIRC, it isn't in Potato and Slink).
When I saw announce that it will be orphaned, I asked for sponsor and
Martin Pitt offered to help me. I then made patch which enhance
metalog a bit. I sent patch to upstream author and he accepted it and
told me that he will release new version soon but that "soon" was two
months ago :-(
