I think it isn't better, it is different. I packages it because recently
I was unable to use the current libnss-mysql to integrate an existing
database. The way libnss-mysql-bg works let me do it, because of its
really flexible approach (explicit sql query per nss call). But the way
the current libnss-mysql works is more like other std nss modules in
debian or pam modules. And I think it generates less queries... So it's
probably better when you can design your database from scratch with nss
integration.

That's not the first time we've got more than one package doing the same
task in debian... (auth ldap for apache comes to my mind...)

That's also the reflect of free software power, letting the user make his
choice;-)

If one of the two libnss-mysql implementation were really buggy, of
course, debian need to make a choice to provide good quality package. It
doesn't seems to be the case for those ones;-)
