Bug#149148: Babel is LGPL

Hi,
We had talked before about Debian/Babel/PETSc issues.
The latest Babel release is with a bona-fide LPGL.

We're already well underway for the next release, and I'm
refactoring the current configure.ac/Makefile.am situation.
Anytime you're ready to talk about shipping Babel with Debian
and/or have suggestions to improve the way we package and ship Babel, I'd be happy to talk with you.

Outstanding! Thank you for the great news. I noticed the release on the babel-users list, but for some reason didn't see the license change. This is terrific.

Since you're using autoconf/automake, the packaging should not be hard, and upgrading the package to new upstream releases should not be bad either.

I'm very busy for the next week and a half, so will start the packaging process in two weeks or so. As you may know, the 3.0 "woody" release of Debian just happened in the beginning of August, that was the first release in about two years. Version 3.1 "sarge" is under development, but will likely not release for at least a year, so there's no big rush to package Babel, though I'd like to get it in fairly soon. PETSc got in just after the previous 2.2 release, so we had lots of time to work with the package.

Thank you for pointing this out,
