Package: wine
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: normal
When a dialogue box displays a message, it is currently not possible to
select the text for copy into anither application, because dragging the
mouse over the text does has no effect.
For example, this makes it extremely awkward to copy error messages
containing long registry keys or multiple messages into an application,
such as an editor, or into a browser search box for diagnostic purposes.
Suggested fix is that dragging a mouse over text, highlights and copies
to clipboard.

Wine is designed to be bug-for-bug compatible with Windows. If it isn't
possible under Windows (which it isn't in most programs), it's unlikely
to ever be possible under Wine.
In theory, perhaps the static control could be changed to implement a
feature like this behind the application's back, but not all
applications will use this control to present dialog text (so it
wouldn't always work), and of course, some applications may use this
control in manners incompatible with copy/paste. For example, the
application may want to let you click on the text to perform some
application-defined action (especially if used in a toolbar). Under
Windows, the static control's standard response to mouse clicks is to
let the click "through" to the parent window. In general, handling of
mouse events is a very delicate matter, and it's unwise to mess with it
in un-Windowsy ways.
You can talk to upstream about it if you want, but I doubt it's going to
happen. I suggest you just resort to your desktop environment's
screenshot facilities for really annoying error messages, as many others do.
