        How about:
+   It would be preferable if the organizations holding assets in
+   trust for Debian would undertake to meet certain obligations for
+   the handling of such assets, as an example:

        It remains in future tense, it is still an indication of
 preference, as opposed to an imperative "required tomeet certain
 obligations", and "it would be preferable if the children would be
 quiet" seems perfectly correct and has the advantage of flowing far
 more mellifluously off my tongue :P
