oh.   that works too, since alice (the debian login) would be unique,
and be enough to prevent collisions.

but it is harder to scan for 33 numbers than (say) 8.   but other than
that, the results are the same: a unique, reporoduceable identifier that
is difficult to surreptitiously change.
