I've done that (several times) to no avail.

Are you sure clamav 0.93 is in volatile for arm? According to
http://packages.debian.org/etch-volatile/clamav arm is still lagging
behind the other architectures, on 0.92.1dfsg-0volatile1 instead of
0.93.1.dfsg-volatile1

The file at 
http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile/dists/etch/volatile/main/binary-arm/Packages
lists "Version: 0.92.1dfsg-0volatile1" at the top, and there's no
"Package: libclamav4" entry to be found.
