actually it's possible, but iirc the downloaded files won't be replaced by
new versions...

I use the follow, which appears to work:

#!/bin/sh
# Update SpamAssassin Rules

/usr/bin/sa-update -D channel,dns
/etc/init.d/spamassassin restart
