Correct. Sadly, the current embodiment of Gnome differs markedly in philosophy from the early versions. Today, everything lurks invisible in the shadows. I prefer XFCE. The proper name of Debian is (or at least, used to be) "Debian/GNU Linux" in which "GNU" is an acronym for "GNU is not Unix". Debian depends/runs upon many GNU utilities, which largely are the product of Richard Stallman. The signature of Stallman is on many MAN pages. Without the work of Stallman, there would be no Linux. Stallman is an unsung hero. We all are indebted to him. RLH
