Except that it appears one cannot do that under trixie. At least that
is my experience so far.

Apparently so. I haven't found a way to do that for libvirt. I've found
plenty of instructions on how to bridge two physical IFs (e.g. eth0 and
eth1), but that doesn't help me.

And why is this so complicated? It's not rocket surgery.
