You provided the answer I was going to suggest (below).

freenginx is a fork. The fork was performed by Maxim Dounin, who was
one of the principal nginx devs. The fork was due to F5 buying nginx
and the Russian devs getting kicked out of the nginx project at the
start of the Russian-Ukraine war. Dounin's announcement message to
the nginx mailing list is at "Announcing freenginx.org" (February
2024), <https://mailman.nginx.org/pipermail/nginx/2024-February/GPXQY27UA5SJJZ2Y6JWTRWJB2TKPTJR7.html>.
I was going to suggest folks try the freenginx fork and mailing list,
but you beat me to it. The freenginx mailing list is at
<https://freenginx.org/mailman/listinfo/nginx>.
We asked Debian to include freenginx in the distro as an alternative
to nginx, but the request was declined at that time. See Debian Bug
1063916, <https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1063916>.
