Thanks. I should have thought of that. Doh.

Neither of those is reassuring. There is a reason why people use
checksums. Many years ago, I worked for Maxtor writing test software,
long before SMART came in. Something is fishy here.

I did a short and long test. Both reported success. Neither corrected
the checksum issue.

I also pulled in and compiled git head. No luck.

I don't see on WD's web site any way to update the firmware.
