One of the issues was that after an upgrade of the firmware packages
(firmware-nvidia-graphics in particular), the initrd.img-* files
could be more than 200 MB. This has improved (bug fixed), but the
Nvidia firmware still takes a lot of space, even though a little of
it would be sufficient.
