I suspect that FF is eating all of RAM - it can be a memory hog.
• Login on a console (Ctrl-Alt-F1)
• Run 'top'
• Return to GUI (Ctrl-Alt-F7)
• Run firefox
• When the system crashes return to the console and have a look at
what top is telling you - check especially Memory and Swap use.
