Not if you're using nouveau. If you were using the (closed source,
proprietary) nVidia drivers, you'd have to pay more attention;
Eventually nVidia drop support for the old hardware. Why wouldn't they?
They want you to buy new gear, not keep using the older, perfectly
serviceable, hardware.
