I found calamares vastly deficient when it comes to disk partitioning: I wanted
to do RAID-1 and lvs on top of that. I had to:

• do a really simple install onto 1 disk (sda)
• partition the other disk (sdb)
• create RAID-1 with 1 disk on sdb
• set up LVM on sdb
• Create logical volumes on LVM
• Copy simple install from sda to LVM
• fiddle with grub to be able to boot from sdb
• boot & run system on sdb

That is as far as I have got, the rest is simple, I need to
• clear & repartition sda
• add partitions on sda to RAID-1

If anyone is really interested I could share my notes.
