Okay.

Please check and post the Setup settings for the disk drive.

Please run and post:

# gdisk -l /dev/sda

root@courgette:/home/mick# gdisk -l /dev/sda
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 1.0.9

Caution: invalid backup GPT header, but valid main header; regenerating
backup header from main header.

Warning! One or more CRCs don't match. You should repair the disk!
Main header: OK
Backup header: ERROR
Main partition table: OK
Backup partition table: OK

Partition table scan:
   MBR: protective
   BSD: not present
   APM: not present
   GPT: damaged

Caution: Found protective or hybrid MBR and corrupt GPT. Using GPT, but disk
verification and recovery are STRONGLY recommended.

There's just the one OS on this disk. Possibly my changing the disk from MBR to GPT caused some error.
I will take everything to bits but I am doing important shit-posting work.

Thank you for the gdisk(8) output. I do not see anything notable beyond the backup header warning, but factual information will provide clues for the experts on this list.

When you say "my changing the disk from MBR to GPT", could you please describe this in general terms and also please post the console session? Perhaps there are more clues in there.

David
