It's coming from the HD dock.  If I turn off the (USB -> 2xSATA Sabrent) 
dock sdd disappears.  Then if I turn it back on, after 3-4 seconds it 
reappears.  The dock is currently empty.  I'm not sure what happens if I 
attach a physical volume _not_ through that dock.
