One reason is a form of future-proofing. Increasingly, computers are being made
without legacy boot support. If a PC goes poof without taking the storage along
down, one used to expect to be able to move the storage to a new PC and keep on
going without missing many beats. That won't work with MBR disks moved to a
UEFI-only PC. Besides that, UEFI is more robust/evolved, plays nicer with
multibooting, and is typically more easily repaired when bootloader trouble manifests.
