In Synaptic, go to Settings/Repositories, and untick (uncheck) the
CD/DVD entries, click Done. You'll probably probably be asked to
Reload you database(s). Do so.
Doing the above will negate the need to update the sources using a text
editor, either as root or by use of sudo, as to run Synaptic one
(obviously) requires elevated privileges.
Now you should now be able to install/update software without an annoying
"Insert DVD...." nag requester.
