Hello,
I recently installed Debian 12.8 on a laptop with an ONKYO motherboard with an i5 M450 processor. With Debian and any GNU/Linux that I had previously installed (Fedora and Kubuntu), there was a problem with the suspend resource. The laptop turns off by itself and only it starts working again when I turn it on, it resumes working from the point where it stopped, but it does this action indefinitely. I solved this problem via GRUB by disabling suspend. After that, the installation went on normally. However, when I started it and tried to log in, the screen turned off. If I had already selected a user and entered the password, even with the screen off, I was logged in and I used the system as that user which it works without any problems. Another way to go back to the login screen is to switch to a prompt screen and return to graphical mode, but this is only a paleative since it quickly returns to the previous situation. One thing I noticed (and it may have nothing to do with it) is that this behavior started happening after I connected a monitor to the laptop and switched the screen and at a certain point the screen kept in black every now and then. What am I doing wrong and how can I solve this problem?
I have Debian with KDE running just fine on an external monitor. When I need to use my webcam I switch the display configuration to unified output and the same image is displayed on both monitors. I have KDE configured to not suspend when the lid is closed if a monitor is connected. Also under battery and brightness I have "manually block sleep and screen locking" checked.
Hello Timothy,
Thank you for you answer. I really didn't inform all that it is necessary to expose my problem. I had already configure “battery and brightness” how you indicated.
What desktop environment are you using?
I installed KDE and Gnome but I am using only KDE. I choised login manager GDM.
Is the external monitor still plugged in?
I used external monitor only one time. And it was like I said.
How is the external monitor configured: unified, extended or primary?
Extended.
You say you disabled suspend via grub? Have you tried disabling suspend in the BIOS? It will be S2 and S3 in BIOS.
Yes, I disabled suspend via grub. The computer's BIOS is very simples (!) and it don't have config suspend item available (!!). Or it is hid an I don't still found it.
When the device suspends I take it that you are not able to wake the device properly by pressing the power button?
No, without to disable suspend via grub, my laptop turned off by itself and when I pressed power button it turned on, it resumes working from the point where it stopped, but it does this action indefinitely. I disabled suspend via grub and this problem finished. However, when I started it and tried to log in or simply I wait, the screen turned off (black screen). When I get login system work without problems.
