Hi Lina,

It would be helpful for everyone to know a few more details.

This is an Intel Mac. If it has a touchbar, does the touchbar still work?
[Signs of life]

First, thanks very much for your reply, I did not come back to check for the last two days, sorry for the late reply.

Below are point to point responses.

The touchbar does not work.

Did you install only Debian or does the machine still have MacOS on it as
well.
[Can you boot another operating system to check]

I kept the Mac OS, the internal keyboard works fine with Mac OS.

At what point does the internal keyboard stop working? Does it not work
from the outset?

It does not work starting from booting the system, it works before select which system to boot, namely when I pressed the Option key it allows me to go to the Mac OS.

Which boot medium did you use to install Debian? Where - which link - did
you download it from?
[There is a boot medium marked for Mac but this is for one specific model
of *old* Mac that has problems with disk layout. That should not be used -
use the amd64 .iso]

I downloaded the latest, stable version, amd64 DVD version,

I note that the external keyboard that you plug in has a dvorak layout: I
assume that you have a Mac that does not have a dvorak layout built in.
If you install a us layout or a country-specific layout does that make a
difference?

In both Mac OS and external-keyboard, the dvorak layout works well.

I notice that you also messaged debian-devel and said that you would come
back to debian-user: it would be very helpful for problem-solving if you
could reply to the questions above. Reply to this email set to the
debian-user list.

I was dodging a little bit as the first response I got, I was not comfortable to engage the reply.

I am here now, and hope to fix the problem as I NEED this laptop to work with Linux.

Thanks very much for the help, best, lina

Hold that thought :)
