It isn't supposed to.
You may block specific domains by adding lines like
0.0.0.0 www.google.com
in /etc/hosts. The second part is the domain to block, the first is the IP
address to map it to (0.0.0.0 being localhost, thus preventing connection to
the real server). For more advanced filtering, you may want to use something
like dnsmasq [1, 2].
