That looks like a success ...


However, I have a bit of a problem, when I attempt:

If you were using virtualbox before vmware, could this be left over?
Virtualbox has been removed from Debian stable versions - see
https://wiki.debian.org/VirtualBox but I think you could pick it up from 
Oracle.

If you've nothing that depends on either particularly, I'd recommend
virt-manager and the kvm/qemu universe.

Actually, I am using the QEM/KVM virt-manager programs for Windows 10 and an very happy with them. However, right now I'm hung up on accessing the host and the internet from the Windows guest. I was hoping to get som insight from VMWare as to a solution.
My major problem is, because of the problem with VMWare Player, I can.t use Synaptic or apt to update and upgrade Bookworm.

I usally run it with sudo or root, that is why you may have the permission issues above
I would rerun it with root perms, may not change anything, I don't know as I always run it with root perms.  It could be that some of the "missing with permission denied" will go away.
The missing are files that should be there according to a package on the system but are no longer on your system ie missing/no existent.
the ones with the 'c' are files that have been changed/edited since they were install.
This one '??5??????' I forget what it is telling you, i would have to look that up.
What the command that I suggested to you does is to read all the information about all the packages on your system and it then does a md5sum on the installed files and compares them to what was in the package when is was installed, by giving it a package name it will only look at just that package. The command above is look at everything.
In a perfect world it should not come back with anything, in the real world you will have some differences as in what I posted on my particular system. 

man dpkg will tell you more about what is does (--verify section).
When I have issues that are similar to yours I run that so I get an idea of what the package was as installed verses what is actually installed, ie how deep of do do is the system in and what did I break.
Then if I have an issue with missing files I can use apt/dpkg to tell me what package that file is in and then maybe reinstall that package or packages. That may get me to the point I have a functional system that I can debug further. 

It is not a panacea but it is a good starting place in my opinion.
