As I have taken the first step of changing one of my systems to V12, the OP revelation that I can get back my syslogs is most welcome.
On the topic of gripes, 12 still has the obnoxious NetworkManager as immutable default on new install. Luckily this is easily undone. It takes moments replace it with my now preferred systemd-networkd which is highly competent , predictable, and unbuggy - unlike NetworkManager
