It might be worth trying an in between resolution, e.g. 1280x800, which like
1440x900, is a 16:10 mode, unlike 1024x768, which is 4:3.
In troubleshooting mode, it's useful, sometimes crucial, to have more information
as a result of recommended changes than just a narrative. Pastebinning Xorg.0.log
after every graphics configuration change is one of those additions that meets
this criteria. In this lengthy thread, there has only been one Xorg.0.log from the
OP shared that I can remember. A short form partial substitute for Xorg.0.log is
inxi -SGayz.
