1. It found an open wifi network
2. It's plugged into your ethernet
3. Your wife gave it the wifi password

Quite possibly. The systems for this is called several names, but
the most likely are UPNP, DLNA, ChromeCast or AirPlay.

Suitable Debian packages include:
mythtv
vdr
kodi
and for music, many others.

That's suggestive of already knowing your wifi password or being
on a wired network.
