Since you are the only one experiencing this problem there must be 
something special about your setup ;)

What periodic tasks?

How did you even think about looking at the user-runtime-dir@.service?

So you are running leafnode on it, not necessarily the most common 
software to run on a desktop.

What else besides XFCE and "common" desktop software (e.g. mail client, 
LibreOffice, etc.)?

You might want to read
