    In addition to Reco's advice, some HDDs have special programming in
    their firmware, which basically prevents the drive from falling into
    recovery loop until system is rebooted once they encounter a bad
    block.
    It is called SCT Error Recovery Control [1] and could be checked
    using "smartctl -l scterc /dev/sdX".
    HDD manufacturers often name their products with this feature as
    "Pro", "NAS edition", "RAID edition", etc, but it is always
    necessary to check full specifications for the product in official
    datasheet.
