On my system (Buster) USB things are called /dev/sd<something>.  From the CLI, I type "sudo mount /dev/sd<tab>" to see what's already there, then plug in the USB device, and  hit <tab> again to see what's new.  Then finish the line with a partition on the /dev/sd<new> thing and mount point and hit RTN.

Faster than starting a GUI, and it hasn't been 'fixed' yet.

If you want it to be already there, give it a UUID and see the other answer to your question.
