Not recommended.

1. They are the fall back solution, when the latest kernel is not booting.

2. Removing packaged files are better deleted by removing the package instead.

   Various ways to do so: apt-get remove <package>, or aptitude, or apt.

   But wouldn't do neither, as it is the fall back solution for your system.
