On archlinux I'm running foldingathome-beta and it doesn't disable my system. It does use spare cpu cycles not used by the system for its own maintenance and not used by me. The system at times does run hard but that's to be expected. I don't know if that package is available on debian yet. I tried boinc having used setiathome software before it and never did manage to get that set up and working. --
