Yes, NFS and AFP are also supported (I think even out of the box, but if
it's not, there is a plug-in for it (I use NFS myself , and have seen
AFP somewhere on openmediavault)

I usually use sshfs (https://github.com/libfuse/sshfs), which does the
job just fine.

There are a lot of tutorials on how to install/configure openmediavault,
but if you need help, I'll be happy to help you out ;)
