Well, for me it works:
    echo "some text before config=mumble mumble" | sed -e 's/\(^.*config=\).*/\1/'
    => some text before config=
(note that I anchored the regexp at the beginning of the
line with ^, but that's not strictly necessary. It works
without, too).
