OK I got it sorted out. Seems it was a font issue. i had to install ttf dejavu and it all installed ok

There can be many reasons why this package's post-installation
script may have failed. I don't think you have shown the full
output.

Running "apt upgrade" again will probably either repeat the action
or tell you what to type to repeat the action, so please do that and
show us the full output.
