I am reading about than right now at https://deb.debian.org, and may give that a try. 

(I am assuming that's what you use, and that it works well for you.)

Btw, 

My sources.list (part not commented out) is like yours, except using:

http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/  

listed as a primary mirror, and which I have always used, without problems, ever since my initial system installation.
